The Brno Chair (ART. 58 and 59)

The BRNO chair is another of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s masterpieces. Originally designed in 1929-1930 for the bedroom of the Tugendhat house in Brno, Czechoslovakia, the BRNO chair’s design has stood the test of time.
Constructed of flat steel bar (there is a round tube version as well), bent into shape and chrome plated (or polished stainless steel), the BRNO chair is of the highest quality. This has no doubt contributed to it’s success and staying power. Like Van der Rohe’s other works, it’s the quality and not only the style that gives it that extra something and makes it into a true work of art.
The Brno chair has become a modern furniture classic. It has very clean lines, consisting of a steel frame in a single piece, bent into a C-shape from the middle of the back, round past the front edge of seat (to create arms), and back under the seat to create a cantilever, with taut seat and back upholstered in leather.
There are two versions of the chair, one in tubular steel and the other in flat steel. The metal was originally polished stainless steel; some modern examples are chrome plated.
Thsi chair is available 3 grades and various colors of leather. Please scroll down to see leather options.
